Sins of a Solar Empire 2 Arrives on Steam Later this Month

Stardock’s cult favorite sci fi 4X  real time strategy game Sins of a Solar Empire has had a sequel out in the wild for nearly two years, if you’ve been paying attention. Sins of a Solar Empire 2 has been in early access on Epic Games Store since October 2022 and released its 1.0 version on EGS in 2023. Don’t worry, we wouldn’t blame you for not noticing. EGS is a blackhole for games, after all.

Thankfully, Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is releasing on Steam later this month on August 15.

Some of the key differences between Sins 2 and its predecessor are the introduction of strategic and tactical simulation, refinement of faction differences, and technical updates that allow the game to take advantage of multicore processing on its 64 bit engine.

Strategic simulation is of particular note, as now some planets and stars will gradually migrate across the map, disconnecting and creating new phase lanes, and forcing the player to consider these changes as part of their strategy. At one point in the game, a planet may be considered secure, but as stars and planets shift, a newly formed phase lane connection may make that same planet vulnerable to assault.
