Ship of Heroes Previews Raiding Designs and Goals, Aims to Make Raiding More Fun, Less Frustrating

The Ship of Heroes team is shining a spotlight on raids, The teams design philosophy, social gameplay, how to keep raids accessible and rewarding, and of course mechanics and gear.

In the game,  they want raids to be fun and for different raids to be something that different types of players, at different skill levels, and different parts of their progression journeys can have as options. To not just be endgame content.

“We aim to create raids with big, interesting activities that benefit from having lots of players and make it easy to interact with friends. Of course, killing murderous monsters and getting great rewards is also good. Perhaps saving all of mankind, now and again. And having fun while doing it.”

In raid surveys, along with playtests, frustration and some bad experiences were common, so they're aiming to do something different and make raids friendlier. One way they will be doing this is in most raids, you can join your friends  no matter what level your character is. Some of the harder raids will have intentional level requirements, but for the most part, you can be brought up to one level of the league leader or sidekicked. Difficulty will also scale to the number of players in the league and to the level of the raid leader. This allows for flexible team sizes and raid leagues.

If you want to be a leader, you can accept those challenges and earn some extra rewards if you do that. “We’re designing raids that make it quite difficult to be “that guy” who does the thing and causes the whole raid to fail.

That said, raiders have all kinds of preferences. And some respondents didn't want to be forced to raid in order to progress so it won't be required to progress. On the other end, some survey respondents wanted huge raids. The minimum for now is 30 with the maximum being 101/10 teams. This could even grow in the future if the demand is there.

Overall, the new update on raid breaks down raids and what is different about Ship of Heroes in this regard.
