Sega’s mobile game Yakuza Wars appears to have been revealed early

A mobile game based on the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series appears to have been revealed early.

A Facebook page for a game called Yakuza Wars has been spotted, as reported by X user Knoebel.

The page, which appears to be aimed at Chinese players, includes a brief description of the game along with new artwork.

“Sega‘s first officially licensed Like a Dragon mobile game is a brand new, classic gangster-themed masterpiece for mobile phones, creating innovative strategic war gameplay,” it reads.

“Here, you can fight side by side with classic characters such as Kiryu Kazuma, Kasuga Ichiban, and Majima Goro, and write your own legendary story in the Yakuza underworld.”

Mobile ads and a trailer for the game have also been spotted, but these currently don’t show any actual gameplay and instead focus on character art.

Sega filed a trademark for Yakuza Wars last month, but at the time it wasn’t known whether it was going to be a new major entry in the Like a Dragon series or a spin-off.

In July, Like a Dragon develoepr Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio reportedly teased that its next game would be a surprise.

According to several fans in attendance at the Essence of Fandom event at Anime Expo, the team reportedly said: “We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised.”

The studio then held a live stream saying the next Like a Dragon game would be revealed at Tokyo Game Show, which takes place on September 26-29.

It’s not yet clear if the studio is referring to the next main entry in the Like a Dragon series, or something like this apparent mobile spin-off.
