Samsung’s Mobile Head Has Reportedly Told Engineers To Make Next Year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 Thinner Than The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Exact Dimensions Also Shared

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 sports a slightly thinner frame while being lighter than previous-generation foldable flagships, but Samsung’s mobile division head, TM Roh, reportedly has grand plans for next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The executive has reportedly told engineers to make the upcoming handset thinner than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, making it the sleekest foldable smartphone that the company would ever release. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as it sounds, and there are various drawbacks to making devices incredibly thin.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be as thin as 7nm when folded, 58 percent thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 12.1mm in thickness when it is folded, making it somewhat bulky, but that is the nature of such smartphones when you are working with a unique hinge design and multiple displays. The premise behind this design change could be that next year’s customers get a feel for a device that measures the same as a ‘candy bar’ smartphone, making one-handed use simple and delivering an experience that is less fatiguing on one’s hand.

For instance, Samsung’s engineers will have to revamp the cooling solution, as there will now be less space to work with when using a traditional vapor chamber. Additionally, the company may have to compromise on the battery capacity, as thinner devices typically ship with smaller cells. However, Samsung could adopt the same approach as OnePlus did with its ‘Glacier Battery’ technology.
