Ribbon-riding rhythm shooter Aaero 2 is coming to Xbox in September, followed by Steam

Rhythm shoot ’em up Aaero 2 has received a release window.

The game will be released on Xbox Series X/S in September, with a release on Steam following “shortly after” this.

Players who want to receive the game early and at a discount can support its Indiegogo campaign, where a limited number of ‘early bird’ Xbox and Steam copies are available.

While the game is set for a September release on Xbox, the crowdfunding will help with the Steam port and help developer Mad Fellows to “make the game available to players on as many platforms as possible, as soon as possible”.

Like its predecessor, Aaero 2 is a rail shooter which consists of two main sections – riding ribbons and shooting enemies.

The ribbon-riding sections have players moving their ship around a circular area, attempting to follow the path of a ribbon which is moving to the beat. The shooting sections, meanwhile, play similarly to cult rail shooter Rez, in which players lock on to numerous enemies then fire a series of shots which explode to the beat.

The sequel will feature a licensed soundtrack by Monstercat, as well as two-player co-op and PvP modes.

Developer Mad Fellows is a two-man team consisting of Paul Norris and Dan Horbury. Both previously worked for FreeStyleGame on the DJ Hero and Guitar Hero series.

The first Aaero was released on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC, and received a score of 80 on Metacritic.
