Resident Evil Village Sales Surpass 10 Million Units Worldwide

Resident Evil Village sales have surpassed 10 million units globally across all platforms, publisher Capcom has announced.

Capcom announced the news through an official press release earlier today. As mentioned in the release, this sales number includes both physical copies and digital downloads. Another interesting sales figure is that the Resident Evil franchise has now sold 157 million units as of March 31, 2024 (since the release of the first Resident Evil back in 1996) -quite the achievement.

Resident Evil Village was released back in May of 2021. As such, Capcom managed to sell 10 million copies of the game within three years. As reported last year, more than 8 million copies of the game were sold within two years. This implies that an additional 2 million copies were sold over the past year. Shortly after the game's launch, Capcom reported to have shipped 4.5 million copies globally. In January 2022, roughly seven to eight months after the game's global release, Capcom announced that 5.7 million copies of the title were sold, thereby becoming the fastest-selling installment in the series.

We reviewed the most recent major new Resident Evil release upon launch. Here's what we wrote about the game in our review:

Ultimately, Capcom knows when to deliver its big punches, and it begins and ends RE Village with a proper bang. They also leave players with some nice treats after the credits roll, including a solid new incarnation of Mercenaries mode and tons of concept art and extras with interesting behind-the-scenes details attached. You’re left with a game that feels like a high-class horror buffet. The game throws so much at you over the course of its packed 12-to-15-hour campaign that you’re guaranteed to find plenty to enjoy, even if there’s a few things you may be tempted to push to the side of your plate.
