Resident Evil Creator Has Founded a New Company

Shinji Mikami, one of the original creators of Resident Evil, has recently founded a new company under the name Kamuy Inc. Mikami gained notoriety as the director of Resident Evil, which went on to create and popularize the survival horror genre. Recently, he was part of Tango Gameworks, which he left in 2023. He's currently working with Grasshopper Manufacture Inc. on Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.

Mikami made his directorial debut with the original Resident Evil. He is considered a pioneer of survival horror, cementing it as an industry mainstay. He continued his work in horror with the creation of Tango Gameworks, which developed The Evil Within. He left the studio, then posted on his Twitter account in October 2023 that it was time to get back to work. It seems he had a non-compete clause against working for a period of time.

Mikami didn't announce the establishment of Kamuy Inc., but did have it included in his creator bio on the Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered website.
