Remedy Gives Updates on Max Payne Remakes and More of Its Upcoming Games

Developer Remedy Entertainment has released a quarterly report detailing the expected development cycles for its previously announced Max Payne 1+2 remake, Control 2, and Codename Condor. Both the Max Payne remake and the upcoming sequel for Control were first announced in 2022, and players now have a better idea of when these highly anticipated releases will enter the next stages of development.

Audiences have considered Max Payne and Max Payne 2 to be long overdue for remakes, with the smash hit titles originally released in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Control proved to be a major success for Remedy when it launched back in 2019, and fans have been eager for more of the classic Matrix-style gameplay of these two franchises.

According to an investor report by Remedy, both the Max Payne 1+2 remake and Control 2 are in pre-production stages of development. Remedy explained that Max Payne 1+2 is currently in the «production readiness stage,» which Control 2 is expected to enter sometime in Q2 of this year. The Control multiplayer spin-off gameCodename Condor has been confirmed to be in full production, though a potential release window was not disclosed. Codename Condor is described as having a «unique Remedy angle» that complements the core gameplay loop. Control and Codename Condor both take place within the same universe as the Alan Wake franchise, and the success of Alan Wake 2 has been noted by Remedy as a major boost to the studio's development expenses.

The Max Payne 1+2 remake is slated to be a rebuilt version of the two titles combined into one brand-new release. The game has been sitting in a pre-production readiness state since October 2023, but Remedy has assured investors and fans that the project will be moving into full production by Q2 2024. Control 2 is still undergoing testing and adjustments for proof-of-concept, with the environment, mechanics, and graphics requiring final touches. Similar to Max Payne, Control 2 will enter its next development
