Railguns Out, Meteor Showers In With New Helldivers 2 Patch

The war for democracy is always facing changes, and the latest Helldivers 2 patch is no exception. This gameplay-focused patch brings a slew of major changes that’ll probably affect how you’re charging into battle, especially against those pesky bugs.

The biggest shake-up will probably be your weapon of choice against the Terminids, the bug race currently waging war on several planets pushing towards Super Earth. So far, railguns have been the weapon of choice without hesitation, but there’ll probably be a bit more diversity among weapon choices with this new patch.

According to the patch notes, Railguns will see “decreased damage against durable enemy parts”—which was the main use seen by bug-hunters, who near-exclusively used this against heavily-armored Terminids. However, other guns will probably see more use too, as the Laser Cannon and the Breaker Spray & Pray are both seeing increased armor penetration as part of their buffs. The Laser Cannon is specifically also seeing “increased damage against durable enemy parts,” which, perhaps if testing goes well, could make it a new choice in the battle to exterminate bugs.

Plus, if it seemed bug holes were a little too difficult to take out, it turns out that was an error that’s been fixed. Time to take out those totally unintelligent, savage nests for liberty, of course.

But for everyone, the new Planetary Hazards will likely stir up a new challenge. “Many planets now have additional environmental challenges that will appear at random while you are deployed, from fire tornadoes to meteor showers and many more,” the patch notes read, meaning you’ve got a lot more to dodge if you’re already tactically falling back.

And if Eradicate missions were seeming too easy, then get ready to sweat, as they’ve bumped up the required kills and spawn rate, as “the time to complete the mission was previously shorter than intended and should now usually take twice as long to complete.” Gear up, Troopers.
