Pokemon Fan Creates Impressive Wood Carving of Venonat

A Pokemon fan online has shared their impressive wood carving of Venonat, the Gen 1 Bug-type Pokemon. Generation 1 of the Pokemon series is where it all began, so it's no surprise that its designs are a popular choice for fan art.

Fans have been extremely obsessed with Pokemon ever since its debut almost three decades ago. There are now over 1000 Pokemon spanning nine Generations, each one as unique as the last. Fans have paid homage to Pokemon via plenty of avenues, although fan art is the most frequent. This is a double-edged sword, however — with so much fan art out there, it can become really difficult to stand out from the crowd with anything but exceptional pieces. One recent example is the artist who gave 7 Pokemon Lilo and Stitch-themed makeovers, showcasing how the designs can be used as fun crossovers with other franchises.

Redditor samheck shared the amazing wood carving of Venonat, showcasing a few different stages of its production. The footage begins with a look at the early carvings of what would become the complete Pokemon, before eventually transitioning to an image of the complete painted version. It looks identical to the Pokemon from the games, with samheck even managing to capture the hair of the fuzzy design perfectly. It's an impressive depiction of the Bug-type Pokemon, and according to the user themselves, it took around 20 hours to create.

Gen 1 Pokemon fan art is extremely common, given they're the Pokemon that have had the longest amount of time to build a fan base. This also gives them a greater chance to make a mark on popular culture.
