PlayStation’s Bluepoint Games is ‘still working on an original title’

Bluepoint Games has said that it’s still working on an original title for parent company Sony Interactive Entertainment.

PlayStation announced that it had acquired the studio in September 2021, almost a year after the release of its last game, a Demon’s Souls remake which was a PS5 launch title.

The deal cemented a long-running relationship between the platform holder and the Austin, Texas-based studio, which has traditionally specialised in remakes and remasters of older games.

Prior to Demon’s Souls, it developed remasters such as God of War Collection, The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Gravity Rush Remastered, and a Shadow of the Colossus remake.

However, when Sony’s acquisition was announced, Bluepoint president Marco Thrush said the studio was aiming to work on original content going forward.

“Our next project, we’re working on original content right now,” he told IGN. “We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us.”

With almost three years having passed since the acquisition, and the PlayStation business having recently undergone significant restructuring, Bluepoint’s head of technology was asked by a fan on X if the studio was still working on original content.

“Nothing has changed since our statement that we are working on an original title,” Peter Dalton replied. “Everything takes time. We are committed to sharpening our skills!”
