PlayStation Portal 2.0.6 Firmware Update Reportedly Brings Performance, Image Quality Improvements

A new PlayStation Portal firmware update is now available for download, reportedly bringing performance and image quality improvements.

The new 2.0.6 firmware update did not get its official update notes yet, so it is not yet clear what has been changed, but multiple users over on the system's dedicated subreddit reported their experience with the console has been improved with better performance and image quality. While some users did not see any improvements, the widespread consensus suggests these improvements are real and not simple placebo.

Among the biggest issues that prevented many from getting the best out of the PlayStation Portal are the stuttering issues that are reportedly caused by how the PlayStation 5 streams at 59.94 Hz, a value that doesn't match the handheld's screen refresh rate. Hopefully, the new firmware update also addressed this issue.

The PlayStation Portal system is now available worldwide. You can learn more about it by checking out Kai's review.

It might not replace those Backbone controllers and other devices that players might have in their home, but the PlayStation Portal might wind up being the controller that players start reaching for first.
