PlayStation 5 Controllers Receive Price Hike in US

To Japan, this news isn't anything new. They have already experienced a pretty intense price hike for all PlayStation 5 products and accessories, but now those hikes are starting to hit other countries. PlayStation 5 controllers are now more expensive in the US, raising the prices by $5. While this is a relatively small increase, it isn't the first time Sony has raised prices, but this time, they have failed to mention that they would be doing so.

The price increase is already in effect, as the PS5 black and white standard DualSense controllers now start at $75, up from $70, while the rest of the controllers go from $75 to $80. However, the DualSense Edge is unaffected by price hikes and costs about $200.

Wario64 was among the first to notice that the prices of the PlayStation 5 controllers had increased, and pictures of prices were posted on X at Best Buy and Target. Unfortunately, it affects more than just Best Buy and Target, as it is also a visible change in the PlayStation Direct store and some other major retailers in the US. Of course, there are always ways to find deals, such as buying them secondhand or getting them from Amazon, which still has them for $70, but it's uncertain how long those prices will stay the same.

To many, these price increases won't surprise many, especially after Sony revealed that PlayStation 5 hardware sales were down by 27% year-on-year for Sony's first quarter of fiscal year 2024. This doesn't mean that the PlayStation 5 hasn't been successful, as it has surpassed over 60 million units sold. However, it is a bold choice to continue to increase the price of the PlayStation 5 across the globe when, typically, prices of consoles begin to drop due to component costs coming down.
