3 underrated PS Plus games to play this weekend (July 26-28)

If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, you should try out one of these three underrated games from the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog. The first game is an RPG remake from Square Enix that can prepare you for one of August’s biggest game launches. Then there’s an enjoyable racing game from EA that you should check out before it leaves PS Plus next month. Finally, I recommend a remake collection of two cult classic platformers from Bandai Namco Entertainment that are worth your time if you’ve never played them before.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (July 26-38)

July continues to be an all-killer, no-filler month for Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft’s subscription service is receiving comparatively fewer games throughout July than it got in previous months of the year and is facing backlash over an expensive price hike. That said, every new game coming to service this month is worthwhile, with many of them also being added to the service on the day of their release. This week, Microsoft hit another big Xbox Game Pass milestone because a Call of Duty game came to the service for the first time ever. If you’re wondering what games you should play this weekend, these new additions to Xbox Game Pass are worth your attention.

Meta Quest 3’s newest game feels like psychedelic Fruit Ninja

While the high-level sales pitch for virtual reality often involves transporting players to another world, I’ve never found those to be the best VR games. In my experience, my favorite experiences are very esoteric, colorful, and weird. They’re more like hallucinatory episodes rather than gateways to another world. That’s why Beat Saber still stands as one of the most popular VR games and why one of my favorite VR games is Rez Infinite.

If you only play one free Steam SimFest demo, make it this one

My favorite PC game isn’t a complex strategy title or first-person shooter tailor-made for the platform. It’s Game Dev Tycoon, a casual business sim where players create a garage-based game studio and turn it into a full-blown corporation.

Everything announced at Evo 2024: SNK vs. Capcom, Heihachi in Tekken 8, and more

This year’s edition of the Evolution Championship Series, colloquially known as Evo 2024, was held this past weekend and served as the biggest fighting game tournament event of the year. As a result, a lot of fighting game developers showed up with exciting announcements. These reveals ranged from new titles to DLC characters coming to beloved fighting games, including some surprising guest fighters. If you’re wondering what you missed this past weekend, I’ve rounded up every significant announcement made during Evo 2024 and sorted them by developer.

This is my favorite puzzle game of the year, and you can play it via Netflix

This has been a particularly great year for puzzle games. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes and the recent remake of Riven offer up some mind-bending puzzles to solve, while games like Isles of Sea and Sky and Mars After Midnight find an innovative gameplay conceit and explore the concept to its fullest. The latter type of puzzle game I described tends to be more appealing to me, and a new game launching this week checked off all the right boxes for me. Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure from developer Furniture & Mattress is coming to PC, PlayStation, and Switch on July 25, but you can play it on mobile at no extra charge if you’re a Netflix subscriber.
