Ted Litchfield in gaming news

Ted Litchfield - Adam Smith - Swen Vincke was worried that the 100-hour Baldur's Gate 3 would be too short, which is why Larian made a ton of extra areas they wound up cutting: 'I've notoriously always been bad at judging the length of our games' - pcgamer.com

Swen Vincke was worried that the 100-hour Baldur's Gate 3 would be too short, which is why Larian made a ton of extra areas they wound up cutting: 'I've notoriously always been bad at judging the length of our games'

In a new BAFTA video interview, Larian CEO Swen Vincke revealed that he was actually worried Baldur's Gate 3 wouldn't be long enough, an anxiety that's pretty rich in hindsight, given that some players struggle to finish the marathon RPG. Vincke revealed this old fear as a partial explanation for why Baldur's Gate 3 has so many tantalizing cut areas, while also describing one such zone we hadn't heard about before: a second Moonrise Tower to go with the one we saw in Act Two.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's latest trailer is the best showing the game's gotten yet—BioWare really should have led with this months ago

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm bullish on Dragon Age: The Veilguard and I'm not ashamed to defend its honor. Yes, BioWare's had a streak of lean years. Yes, there have been numerous high-profile departures from the studio. Yes, Larian and CD Projekt have kind of eaten BioWare's lunch in the meantime. And yes, there was just something slightly off about its first trailers. Despite all that, the game underneath always seemed solid to me. But god damn, EA and BioWare could have avoided a lot of doubt if they'd just led with something more like today's release date trailer for The Veillguard's official reveal in June.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is bringing back the heinously ugly original sin of preorder/digital deluxe cosmetics, but I'm weirdly nostalgic for it now

I seriously dug Dragon Age: The Veilguard's latest trailer, but right at the end I found myself face-to-face with a ghost: «Pre-order now! Receive the Blood Dragon cosmetic armor.» Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

We can all see that Valve's unannounced shooter Deadlock just hit over 18,000 concurrent players, Gabe

Valve seems to be gearing up to release its first new game in four years, and we already know way too much about it: We've seen dozens of Deadlock's characters and their full movesets on YouTube, we can poke around in its file directories, it has a pretty popular subreddit, and, as reported by VG247, it hit 17,000 concurrent players this weekend, rising to over 18,000 today. Not bad for a game that hasn't even been announced yet.

Baldur's Gate 3's rarest ending has only been unlocked by 34 players, and it requires an obscenely specific sequence of poor decisions

As a part of its celebration of Baldur's Gate 3's one-year anniversary, Larian unveiled some more juicy data about its players' decisions across their various playthroughs on X, «The Everything App.» Seeing the wild ways other people choose to experience this game is always a hoot, but the best part is learning about things I didn't even know were in the game. Spoilers ahead for Baldur's Gate 3's endings, and content warning for suicide.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 system requirements are out, and you probably won't need to buy a new PC to play it

After what could fairly be called a bumpy ride to the finish line, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is now just a month away from release, and that puts it close enough that we can finally lay our eyes on the official system requirements.

Elden Ring's latest patch tried to sneak a big 'ole chair into a boss arena like we wouldn't notice and immediately ponder the lore implications

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's latest patch seriously shook up the weapon meta and modified some of my favorite toys: Mr. Market is bullish on the Backhand Blades, Rakshasa's Great Katana, and Blind Spot ash of war, but if you're still holding on to your Swift Slash stock, you'll want to sell now. A curious change made it into the patch with no mention in the notes, however: A fine wooden throne was quietly added to Rellana's boss room, the Ensis Moongazing Grounds. What could it mean?
