The next Helldivers 2 Warbond is almost certainly a violation of international humanitarian law

The next Helldivers 2 premium Warbond is coming later this month, bringing new stratagems, cosmetics, capes, and what would undoubtedly be cause for international outcry if Super Earth had anything like the Geneva Conventions. «Chemical Agents,» revealed today on the official PlayStation blog, brings a new allotment of Helldiver ordnance focused on spraying poisonous gas, which would be horrifying in just about any other context. But against the Terminids, it's basically just fumigation on a bigger scale, right?

Helldivers 2 creative director says it's a better, sillier world when physics bugs can kill players for jumping past the wrong lamppost: 'Realism can suck it'

The Helldivers face an overwhelmingly hostile galaxy. Each deployment means risking mortal peril, whether by way of armor-shredding Terminid talons or the steel onslaught of the Automaton menace. Some of Super Earth's soldiers, however, fall prey to a more subtle killer: the physics glitch, a merciless enemy that's happy to pulverize a Helldiver as punishment for tripping over the wrong bit of terrain. It's an insidious foe, but it also happens to be very funny—funny enough that Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt thinks it's probably a net positive for everyone if it's left unaddressed.

Sonic Team director dashes hopes for a standalone Chao Garden: 'We can't just break it off and make it a thing'

My partner and I recently revisited Sonic Adventure 2, and it wasn't because we have a special fondness for sending hedgehogs rocketing to their deaths at unpredictable angles or fumbling with Tails's Metal Gear. We were there for the Chao Garden—the side mode where Sonic and co. act as surrogate parents for little blorbo creatures who you can force to fight in karate matches before they've learned to walk. It's a feature so beloved that its failure to appear as a standalone game is a continued and baffling mystery. Apparently, I'm going to stay baffled, because Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka says the Chao Garden isn't right for a spinoff.

Jagex announces official Old School Runescape private servers, because the grind can always get grindier

I fear and respect Old School Runescape players. As someone who has a long history with MMOs and live-service games, I've stomached plenty of grind over the years. But the OSRS player doesn't merely tolerate grind—they relish in it, willing to devote themselves to the near-ascetic self-denial of killing a mole for 8 months. And soon, there will be grinds to endure that we haven't even begun to imagine. Over the weekend, Jagex announced Project Zanaris, the studio's name for customized OSRS community-run servers, where players will be able to design the parameters for the Runescape grind themselves.

Streamers captured Concord's final moments as the servers went offline: 'What a huge f***ing honor'

Earlier today, shortly after 1 PM Eastern, Concord's servers went offline. Ryan Ellis, game director at Concord developer Firewalk Studios, had announced the closure of the 5v5 hero shooter in an official PlayStation blog post published earlier this week on September 3, 2024—just 11 days after Concord's release.

Baldur's Gate 3 players are having their hearts thoroughly wrenched by the new evil endings to their companion romances: 'I'll never emotionally recover from this'

Baldur's Gate 3 got its eagerly anticipated Patch 7 yesterday, which added new, expanded ending sequences for evil player characters. Whether you're a Dark Urge or a more mundane variety of villain, an origin character or a custom-made scoundrel, your big moment has finally arrived if you're playing a bad guy. Sadly, as players have quickly discovered, ascending as an archvillain tends to have some unpleasant outcomes for the companions you might've romanced along the way.

Automatons beware: The next major Helldivers 2 patch will overhaul armor penetration later this month

I love me some Helldivers 2, but I don't love me some automatons. From day one, it's been a bit of a bummer whenever the current Major Order wasn't targeting terminids, and there's a simple reason for that: It feels bad to shoot at a killer android without achieving anything. Because the automatons have so many armored enemies and the Helldivers have so few tools to reliably punch through them, the loadouts that feel worthwhile to bring along have gradually grown pretty slim. Luckily, Arrowhead's looking to change that later this month.
