Intel has rather quietly announced that its upcoming Arrow Lake line of processors will not be the poster child of its 20A node after all, and will instead be entirely based on external foundry nodes. That effectively concludes work on the node and presumably cedes all Intel's next-gen chips to TSMC. These are worrying times for Intel, anyone associated with Intel, and, well, anyone who actually wants to see the PC market grow.

You're getting nearly RTX 3080 performance but with all those nice RTX 40 features. This MSI model uses the traditional 8-pin PCIe power connector, rather than the new 12VHPWR one, which makes it far easier to install as an upgrade.

That's it. Everything else about this machine sings to me. The eight-core, 16-thread Zen 4 AMD processor was one of the greats of the previous generation and the RTX 4060 Ti is finally appearing in PCs around the price it always should have been. Add to that a full 32 GB of DDR5 memory and an acceptable 1 TB SSD and we're golden. You even get a keyboard and mouse with it, so all you have to supply are a monitor and games.
The little Framework 13 laptop is one of my most favourite ever notebooks. And I've owned, tested, and generally messed around with a ton of different gaming and office laptops in my near 20 years as a PC hardware journalist. So, when I say this latest version of the endlessly configurable, endlessly repairable laptop has left me rather cold, I say that only because of the new Intel tech inside it, not because of any new failings of the now classic design.
Every now and then I wonder where SteamOS is. The obvious answer is: it's on the Steam Deck, dummy. But ever since Valve released the original Steam Deck it's been talking about creating a general install that would allow you to drop its impressive Arch-based Linux distro onto other, non-Decky devices. And finally, we have the first tantalising glimpse of a general SteamOS install almost within sight, because the latest beta release (via SteamDeckHQ) has one line that has got me rather excited: «Added support for extra ROG Ally keys.»

The 7700X is a very speedy gaming CPU, and combined with 32 GB of fast DDR5 and that beastly GPU, this PC should fly through even the most demanding of games. As is often the case, however, you'll probably want to add in some sizeable storage when you get the chance, though the 1,000 W power supply is a welcome sight.
