Payday 3 Update Adds Important Feature Seven Months After Launch

The next update for Payday 3 will finally add quickplay and player merging to the game, developer Starbreeze Studios announced seven months after the troubled shooter was released. The previous update, 1.1.1, for the Deep Silver-published game introduced more than 300 bug fixes, a new hardcore challenge, and improved gameplay performance.

While Payday 3 ended up selling well following its launch last September, the game suffered from numerous issues, including server failures, bugs, and missing features. Developer Starbreeze Studios has promised to make its Unreal Engine 4-powered title meet the expectations of players, releasing updates that have tried to address the game's many problems. For its next patch, the Stockholm-based studio has announced that Payday 3 will get two new multiplayer features.

In a recent blog post, Starbreeze Studios stated that Payday 3 will finally get quickplay in the game's next update as part of the company's ongoing Operation Medic Bag initiative. This should allow anyone to quickly join a heist, with players being able to hop into any open lobbies or ongoing games that fit their preferred difficulty settings. Starbreeze Studios explained that it wanted quickplay — a staple in many popular competitive multiplayer games — to get people into the kind of game they want with just the press of a button.

Aside from quickplay, the next update for Payday 3, which is considered by many to be one of the most disappointing games of 2023, will also add player merging to the title. This feature will allow people to stay in a party following a heist, helping them find like-minded players with whom they can continue to do heists.

After releasing the first iteration of quickplay, Starbreeze Studios plans to build on it with a new version that will either be a standalone system with filters, or a part of the Crime.Net-style server browser expected to come out in 2024.
