Overwatch 2 Players Confused By Mauga Spray That Makes No Sense

The design of a spray exclusive to Overwatch 2's latest hero, Mauga, has left some players scratching their heads. A lot of people have put forward some pretty reasonable explanations for the cosmetic's oddities.

Much like other modern competitive shooters, Overwatch 2 offers microtransactions in the form of loot boxes, battle passes, and cosmetics. Among the many types of cosmetics that players can use in the Blizzard-developed hero shooter are sprays, which are images that can be placed on surfaces. Fans have discovered that a spray only available to Mauga, the Overwatch series' 39th hero, has a hard time fitting in with other cosmetics.

Posting on the Overwatch subreddit, user EMPERORLAPLACE told community members that Mauga's Wrestle spray cannot be combined with the Wrestle sprays of other heroes. The other heroes with Wrestle sprays are Brigitte, Sojourn, Doomfist, Reinhardt, and Zarya, the last three being tanks. Mauga will need to interact with the spray of an enemy player to get a combination in a regular game as the Wrestle sprays for Brigitte and Sojourn – the only non-tanks — are incompatible due to their orientations. In contrast, no other heroes are needed for players to enjoy Mauga's Dwayne «The Rock» Johnson-inspired spray.

Many Reddit users have pointed out that a Mauga player could simply join open queue games, giving them a chance to interact with friendly tanks. Thanks to Overwatch 2's highly criticized role queue system, each team of five in a regular match is forced to have one tank, two damage dealers, and two supports, while open queue foregoes those limits entirely. As teams only have a single tank nowadays in standard matches, tank mains in Overwatch 2 are having a difficult time playing the game.

The original Overwatch had a 6v6 setup that allowed up to two tanks per team, which would have given Mauga players the opportunity to combine Wrestle sprays with an ally Doomfist or Reinhardt. While controversial, Overwatch 2's move to the 5v5 format
