Obsidian’s Avowed is ‘similar in length to The Outer Worlds’

Obsidian’s upcoming Xbox console exclusive, Avowed is similar in length to the studio’s previous role-playing game, The Outer Worlds, it’s said.

That would place the RPG – which is releasing for Xbox and PC later this year – at a length of around 13 hours for the main story, and 26 hours including side content, according to HowLongToBeat.com.

“The best comparison for Avowed in terms of scope is The Outer Worlds,” game director Carrie Patel told Game Informer, when asked how long the game would be.

“Players can expect a roughly similar experience, just like The Outer Worlds, depending on what kind of difficulty they play on, and how thoroughly they explore and invest inside content, versus just sticking to the main crit path missions.”

Avowed was first announced in July 2020 as a first-person fantasy action RPG set in the world of Eora, which was originally introduced in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity series.

Earlier this month, Obsidian published a blog post to accompany a new Avowed story trailer which premiered during the Xbox Games Showcase.

Despite the game taking place within the same universe, Patel told Game Informer that players don’t have to have played those games in order to get started in the RPG.

“We’re glad to have our returning fans, but we expect that for many players Avowed is going to be their first introduction into the world of Eora, and we’re accounting for that,” they said.

“So Avowed takes place a few years after the end of Deadfire, which was our game just before this. There are a couple of characters that returning players are going to recognize.”
