Obsidian Dives Deeper on Avowed on the Official Xbox Podcast

Obsidian Entertainment gave fans a closer look at Avowed during last week’s Xbox Direct, showcasing combat, exploration, dialogue and more during the presentation.

This week, game director Carrie Patel and gameplay director Gabe Paramo stopped by the Official Xbox Podcast for a bonus episode to dive even deeper on all things Avowed.

The 25 minute bonus episode features a lot of what was seen during the Xbox Direct, but there are a couple of new scenes mixed in with the rest. The primary topics of discussion included combat and weapon loadouts, crowd control and elemental damage, branching dialogue, and some additional insights on the lore of the game as well as a peek into what it’s been like for the team to work on the project.

One of the more interesting bits of information revealed during the podcast was that Avowed has shifted away from classes, like the ones you’d find in Pillars of Eternity, to skill trees, giving players more flexibility to mix and match the sorts of skills they’d like to include in their builds.

No release date is currently set for Avowed, but expect the game to release on the Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC sometime this year.
