No Man's Sky Is Free Till Monday To Celebrate Its Omega Update

No Man's Sky is free till Monday as it celebrates the launch of its Omega Expedition update, bringing quality-of-life tweaks, new content, and a completely revamped Atlas questline.

The update, which launches for free across all platforms, is out today. The ambitious game by the small Hello Games team continues to churn out massive and meaningful updates for its space game, and the Omega update looks no different.

The Omega Expedition, which is now set to be part of the main story rather than running alongside the main quest, and has been revamped to make them feel more part of the overall experience.

Via the PlayStation Blog, Hello Games' Sean Murray explained the change:

«Until now expeditions have been their own game mode, but we wanted to fully integrate them into our main game. Now, our new expedition system allows travellers to join expeditions with bespoke provisions, bring along their favourite starships or custom multi-tools and return to their main save with loot and exciting rewards.»

New additions to No Man's Sky also include a new Atlas Jetpack, Staff and helmet to celebrate the revamping of the Atlas Path.

The Omega update also brings new combat activities, including the ability to seize a pirate freighter, as well as setting sail with a fleet surrounding your own Dreadnought for the first time.

Targeting new and returning players, No Man's Sky is free to play from now through Monday, in the hopes to reel back in those lapsed players (like myself).

«In the almost eight years since launch, through over 25 free updates, the No Man’s Sky universe has become at times overwhelming in breadth and depth. Through a series of quick missions and milestones, the Omega expeditions will guide you through the fundamentals of base-building, trading, space combat, lore and much, much more. Any progress you make will be retained in case you choose to purchase the game and continue your journey.»

If you own No Man's Sky already, good news, Omega is free and is out
