Nintendo will be streaming Zelda and Splatoon concerts on YouTube next month

Nintendo has announced that it will be making Zelda and Splatoon concerts available on its YouTube channel next month.

The concerts were supposed to be part of the Nintendo Live 2024 events, which were set to take place in Tokyo on December 16-17, 2023 and January 20-21, 2024.

However, in early December Nintendo announced that it was cancelling the events over safety concerns.

Now the company has confirmed that the two concerts scheduled to take place during Nintendo Live 2024 will be shown on its YouTube channel.

In an announcement on X, the official Nintendo of America account said The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert will be made available on February 9 at 5am PT / 8am ET / 1pm GMT, and will consist of a pre-recorded video of the full performance.

Meanwhile, the Splatoon 3 Deep Cut Concert is set to be shown on February 10 instead, with Nintendo saying: “It’ll be posted on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel so you can watch at home”.

Nintendo announced that Nintendo Live 2024 was being cancelled (along with a separate Splatoon tournament) after persistent threats were made that targeted its employees.

The company said it had decided to cancel the events because it couldn’t sufficiently ensure the safety of its customers.

“Our company has been persistently receiving threatening behaviour targeting our staff,” Nintendo said in a statement made in December (translated by VGC contributor Robert Sephazon).

“Recently, these threats have extended to the audience and staff of the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals event as well. With consideration to the safety of our customers as our top priority, we have decided to postpone the event.”

“Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo has been cancelled due to the inability to ensure the safety of our customers,” it added.
