Nintendo Reveals Updated Switch Console Sales Numbers

Nintendo recently revealed its updated sales numbers for the Switch console, not too long after the company acknowledged its eventual follow-up. Ever since hitting the market in early 2017, the Nintendo Switch has been a global sales juggernaut, bolstered by chart-topping exclusives like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and last year’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has also helped sell more Nintendo Switch consoles in countries like Mexico and South America after landing in theaters in 2023.

As a result of all this, the Nintendo Switch has crossed many sales milestones and broken numerous records over the past seven years. This February, it was revealed that the Nintendo Switch had beaten out Nintendo’s own DS and Game Boy handhelds to become the highest-selling system of all time in Japan, even after a drop in the console’s annual global sales.

Now the latest Switch sales figures have been announced during Nintendo’s latest financial earnings release, as reported by Nintendo Life. According to this report, the Switch has sold a total of 141.32 million units since its 2017 launch, with 15.70 million units sold during the 2024 fiscal year that ended in March. This is actually a 12.6% drop from the 2023 fiscal year’s figures, which were listed at 17.97 million units. Regardless, 3.86 million original Switch consoles were sold during the 2024 fiscal year, with the updated OLED Switch model selling 9.32 million units and the compact Nintendo Switch Lite model selling 2.52 million during the same time frame.

Nintendo predicts that the Switch will sell around 13.50 million units in the next fiscal year, which would bring its total to roughly 154.82 million. If this is the case, then the Nintendo Switch could come close to surpassing
