Nintendo Finally Gives Update On Nintendo Switch 2, Confirms June Nintendo Direct

Nintendo has finally addressed the future of the Nintendo Switch,confirming that players can expect news on the company's next major console in the very near future. Rumors have swirled for years that the notoriously elusive publisher has been developing a new console to take over from the Switch given the console's lackluster power compared to the likes of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While details on what the next piece of hardware will entail are still unknown, consumers now at least have an idea of when to expect the big reveal.

While that window is still fairly wide in terms of when exactly the console will be revealed, it means that the so-called Switch 2 will finally be unveiled before the end of March 31, 2025. Outside of this, Nintendo also confirmed that it's planning on holding a major Direct showcase in June 2024, noting that the new console will not be on display for said event.

The successor to the Nintendo Switch console will need to have many impressive features to stand up to the legacy that the Switch has provided.

It's no secret that the Nintendo Switch's hardware is becoming more dated as the system struggles to run most third-party AAA releases without some major graphical downgrades. Back when it launched in 2017, the hybrid console was already underpowered when compared to the likes of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and the performance gap only became more severe when the current generation started in 2020. Reports have speculated that the company is looking to beefy up the hardware in its next console but how it does this without sacrificing portability remains unknown.
