Nightingale Interview: "We Want To Make Sure That We're Offering Players The Best Value"

The early access release of on February 20 is poised to introduce players to survival in a Victorian gaslamp fantasy world — or rather, worlds, as hopping across distinct Realms is a key part of the concept. Realmwalking is made possible through cards that can be combined to generate biomes and characteristics, which can be further twisted by the use of Minor Realm Cards that impose unique and unusual conditions. is made for those who love exploration, and it approaches it in a way that isn't quite like what any game has done before.

At the moment,developer Inflexion Games plans to spend roughly 9-12 months on the early access period for the game, a window that could change to suit the needs of development. The core tenets of the gameplay are already in place, so that time will be used to address issues, expand on ideas and features, and potentially introduce major new elements if community requests and development considerations align.

Screen Rant sat down with Inflexion CEO Aaryn Flynn, Art Director and Head of Audio Neil Thompson, and Director of Production Leah Summers to discuss what went into developing, from the historical setting to the world generation, and the possibilities present in the game's future.

Ben Brosofsky, Screen Rant: has been in development for 5 years or so as I understand it. And within this period, a lot of survival crafting games have released. What's the pitch for players to choose this one?

Aaryn Flynn: That’s a good question, Ben. I think it's first and foremost the the universe we've tried to craft here, this Victorian gaslamp fantasy setting where there's exotic realms to explore, and there's magic, and there's characters and such, who you can meet and interact with, and who will give you adventures and rewards for doing so. I think, you know, I think we're worldbuilders at heart here at Inflexion. And I think we started this whole adventure — this whole project with that in mind.
