Next Tomb Raider Rumored to Be Open World, Set in India, Out Soon; Lara Has a Motorcycle

It's been over two years since Crystal Dynamics announced the next Tomb Raider game. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 instead of the studio's Foundation Engine, it will be published by Amazon, which also has plans to create an interconnected universe of games, films, and TV based on Lara Croft's franchise.

Perhaps that is why movie insider V Scooper (who has a decent track record when it comes to films, apparently) managed to get some details on the upcoming game. According to V Scooper, the new Tomb Raider installment will be open world with Lara roaming vast zones with her motorcycle and parachute, and it will be released in less than a year if everything goes to plan. The leaker also talked about the setting, a possible rival faction, and some of the gameplay features:

A natural disaster strikes northern India, revealing ancient emperor Ashoka's ruins and artifacts. Lara strategically races against a Society of Raiders and other rivals for these powerful relics. The Society of Raiders are inspired by Lara yet unaffiliated and might have some opposite agendas. This also relates to a new feature based on recruiting teams and allies to strategically aid you in missions and defeating rivals There's emphasis on a new non-lethal combat option.

The mention of another team of younger raiders echoes a previous rumor shared nearly two years ago by former IGN editor and Kinda Funny co-founder Colin Moriarty. As for the release window, another movie insider (Miller Ross) said a while ago that Tomb Raider has been in development for a lot longer than most people believe and will be released well in advance of Perfect Dark (the other project Crystal Dynamics is working on in tandem with The Initiative). As such, it is conceivable that we might see the game unveiled during the Summer Game Fest with a possible 2025 release window.
