New Version of Super Rare Game Leaked for the Nintendo Switch

According to recent leaks, the Nintendo Switch could soon be receiving a revamped version of Nintendo World Championships. Created specifically for the titular Nintendo World Championships esports competition, the Nintendo World Championships 1990 NES cartridge is one of the rarest video games of all time, with only a little over 100 confirmed to be in existence. As one might imagine, this has made Nintendo World Championships highly sought-after by collectors.

Copies of Nintendo World Championships 1990 have gone for thousands of dollars, through auctions and private sellers. The cartridges being so incredibly rare means that the vast majority of Nintendo fans have never played Nintendo World Championships 1990, which featured customized, curated sections of Rad Racer, Super Mario Bros., and Tetris. Now it seems a new version of the game could be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

As spotted by Twitter user Stealth40k, a game called Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition has been rated by the ESRB. The ESRB rating outs the game as a «collection of 2D challenges and platformer games» and mentions that it also features «pixelated characters using small swords or arrows to strike at enemies.» This suggests that the version of Nintendo World Championships coming to the Nintendo Switch will be quite different from the original NES cartridge. Until Nintendo reveals the game itself, though, we can't be 100% sure what Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is bringing to the table compared to the original NES cartridge.

Ultimately, the ESRB gave the game an E for Everyone rating, noting that it has «Mild Fantasy Violence» and «In-Game Purchases.» The possible existence of microtransactions in this new version of Nintendo World Championships points to the game having some online elements, though that remains to be seen. Perhaps the «game» will be free and players will have to purchase the games-within-the-game separately, but that's just speculation at this time. Again,
