New Super Mario Bros. Wonder Plushie Is Accidentally Terrifying

A new plushie is straddling the line between cute and creepy. The plush was created by official merch manufacturer San-ei Boeki, who has also made many other plushies and toys for the series. Despite making many toys for the franchise, this is only the second in the line.

The Talking Flower plushie from will be released soon, according to a post on X from the company, spotted by. In an effort to make the plush true to its game from, the Talking Flower toy will actually be able to talk.

When its sides are pressed, the plushie speaks a random line from the game from a set of 18 prerecorded lines. It's also bilingual and able to switch between English and Japanese.

The other plushie from San-ei is Mario's elephant form, an iconic image from the game. The Talking Flower might be another staple from the title, but it's not the most logical choice for a plush. The other elephant forms of the iconic series characters would make excellent plushies, as would the cute Wonder Seed. Instead, fans can look forward to the slightly creepy plushie form of the Talking Flower from the game. The character was not a popular one and definitely not something that fans wanted to have as an actual real-world talking item.

Fans can hear the Japanese voice in a video shared by the toy company. To its credit, the toy does sound just like its video game equivalent. However, this means the toy sounds like a middle-aged man. Among the lines it can say are "" and "" which do nothing to make it look any cuddlier. The toy measures just 14 cm (about 5.5 in) in height, and it's the perfect shape for squishing. It will launch alongside the Wonder Flower, which doesn't speak, is slightly larger at 18 cm (about 7 in), and is significantly more likable.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder could have had far more silly and bizarre elements, with many of these shown during a panel at the 2024 GDC event.
