New Medieval Strategy Game Is Off to an Incredibly Strong Start on Steam

Manor Lords has started its early access launch to a very warm reception. Manor Lords is a release that comes with years' worth of anticipation, as the game's announcement trailer was posted to YouTube on July 4, 2020. The game offered visuals that many gamers found impressive, along with the promise of realistic city building and large scale tactical battles. Appearing large in scope, complex, and demanding in skill, the game found an audience that eagerly anticipated more.

The more that people saw of Manor Lords, the more excited they got, and Manor Lords surpassed Hades 2 and Hollow Knight Silksong on wishlists. Although some gamers were shocked by how quickly such a large demand of over 3 million wishlists showed up for Manor Lords, there seemed to be a simple answer to its steady popularity. There is a dedicated base of strategy and city builder genre gamers and Manor Lords offers that style of gameplay along with gridless placement, real-time strategy combat, and a seemingly robust urban planning system. Furthermore, Manor Lords ties all of these appealing parts together through a commitment to its authentic medieval aesthetic.

Launching in early access on April 26, Manor Lords has started off incredibly strong. Over the course of its first 24 hours, its player count peaked at 159,701, and has since plateaued at around 90,000. On its first day, Manor Lords surpassed concurrent player counts for Baldur's Gate 3, GTA 5, and Destiny 2, which is impressive on its own, but some might consider it a bigger feat for an indie game like Manor Lords, which does not necessarily have the same resources that a studio like Rockstar might.
