Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Difficulty Will Change Drastically From New Style to Legacy Style

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater received a new trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2024, where the highly anticipated remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 was also playable.

At TGS 2024, Famitsu caught up with Production Producer Noriaki Okamura for an interview. Interestingly, Okamura-san said that the difficulty will change drastically depending on the player's choice of perspective: legacy style or the new style.

The main feature is the ability to choose between "NEW STYLE," which is a third-person perspective, and "LEGACY STYLE," which uses a top-down bird's-eye view and has controls closer to those of the original version. We had planned to make it possible to switch between the two viewpoints at any time during gameplay, but we decided against it.

The difficulty level changes drastically depending on the viewpoint. The "New Style" has a wider linear field of view, and you can shoot your gun while moving Snake, so the difficulty level was lower than we had expected. However, if we adjusted it to match the "New Style," the "Legacy Style" would become too difficult. So, we decided to split the play style into two.

The "Legacy Style" is close to the difficulty level of the original version, and we are adjusting the "New Style" from scratch.

Famitsu also asked Okamura about the release date of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, he didn't commit to any specific windows yet.

That's a pretty difficult question (laughs), but the game is actually already playable to the end, and we don't expect it to take many years to complete. However, the most important thing in the development of this game is not to disappoint the fans. We want to finish it properly and announce it once it is in a state where it can be firmly confirmed. Game development doesn't proceed at a constant pace, so it's difficult to express, but... we can see the goal, and we're still adding the missing parts.
