LawBreakers is Making a Comeback After 7 Years

LawBreakers, the infamous hero-oriented first-person-shooter, is making a comeback years after its release, thanks to a group of fans. While LawBreakers died rather quickly after release, the game was able to create quite a small but dedicated player base, so much so that a group of fans teamed up to bring back the action-packed shooter.

LawBreakers was released back in 2017 for both PC and PlayStation 4, and while it launched with a wide range of playable characters, fun movement mechanics, and adrenaline-pumping first-person shooter action, it failed to maintain any momentum, with the game being considered dead just a year later in 2018. LawBreakers was advertised as a thrilling FPS arena shooter but found itself in an already crowded market, with Blizzard's juggernaut Overwatch dominating the genre. While generally well-received, LawBreakers was a commercial failure and was shuttered rather quickly.

However, according to GameInformer, fans are working on bringing LawBreakers back to life. Dubbed the RELB Project, fans are using «fake» servers that the original game client uses in order to continue playing LawBreakers. This, in turn, has allowed LawBreaker's player base to grow, granting players access to a game that would otherwise be unplayable. The RELB project started in 2020 and can be downloaded via a launcher. Players can enjoy the game by simply applying a patch to LawBreakers.

LawBreakers was created by Boss Key Productions, a development team led by Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski. While this project is unofficial, Bleszinski has been very vocal about bringing LawBreakers back, showing his full support for the RELB Project. Bleszinski has hinted at bringing back LawBreakers himself in the past. Now, he is tweeting about the fanmade project, sharing a link to the project's official Discord server.

Boss Key Productions shut down as a result of LawBreakers' failure, with Bleszinski stating he would never make another video game again. The RELB
