The game doesn't tell you this limitation, making it incredibly easy to fail as you may get distracted by other content in this massive RPG. Those looking to earn this quest's rewards successfully will have to stay focused to avoid failure.

Thankfully, you don't need to finish specific quests before to unlock it since it will appear without any prerequisite. Try to rest at a campsite with your party long before this quest activates, or you may risk taking too much time recuperating during the mission. Starting quests too early in can spell disaster, especially with this one's parameters.

Anyone can begin the quest when they talk to the character Morris at the Checkpoint Rest Town in the larger Vernworth region. You can speak to a character named Lutz close to Morris' shop to learn more details about Rodge's abduction. Some villagers in town witnessed what happened to Rodge and know some extra details about Morris' grandson and his daily life. Head back to the entrance of the Checkpoint Rest Town with your Pawns in to pursue this clue as fast as possible.

Keep in mind that the moment you finish talking to Morris, the clock begins ticking for Rodge's survival, so pursue every clue you can without stopping to shop, fight monsters, or pursue other missions.

You can start finding out what happened to Rodge at the village entrance, where you talk to the villager Timothy and their two friends hanging out in the town square. As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Quicksand Riggs, Timothy talked to Rodge before he was taken. According to him, Rodge was carrying a bundle of grass toward a outside the settlement.
