Helldivers 2 Won’t Feature A “Story Mode”, Reveals Arrowhead’s New CEO

It looks like Helldivers 2 won't be getting a separate story mode, which is a bummer for the franchise's fans, given the massive hype it has managed to gain.

It wouldn't be surprising to say that Helldivers 2 is indeed one of the most trending games of this year, with the game selling over 12 million units, according to publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment. One Twitter/X user asked Arrowhead's new CEO, Shams Jorjani, whether Helldivers 2 would ever feature a "dedicated story mode", to which he replied that it wouldn't happen, saying that it would be equivalent to building a new game.

Well, the CEO's response isn't unexpected at all, given the complications involved in building a story narrative from scratch. And given that Helldivers 2 has done a great job in being the "live-service" title as intended, squeezing in a story mode simply won't be the right move, even if the fans desire it. Apart from that, Arrowhead's CEO also stated that the team is going on a "summer break," which will slightly impact the game's development pace, but there's nothing to worry about.

In other Helldivers 2 news, the title managed to maintain its position in Circana's North American sales data for April, which shows that the game is still popular amongst many consumers. The future for the franchise is exciting, and we can't wait to see what developments will contribute to its longevity, given that Arrowhead aims to be the next "FromSoftware and Blizzard."
