Helldivers 2 Server Cap Raised to 700K But Concurrent Player Limit Soon Expected to be Reached; New Patch Out

A new Helldivers 2 patch has been deployed, and developer Arrowhead has confirmed that the Helldivers 2 server cap has been raised to 700.000 concurrent players.

Last week, Arrowhead already increased the server cap to roughly 450K after the popular sci-fi co-op shooter passed the all-time Steam concurrent player numbers of both Destiny 2 and Starfield. There's no stopping Arrowhead's game, however, and Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt has now taken to X to confirm that the server cap has been increased to 700K through a new patch. Unfortunately, the CEO also mentioned that this new cap will likely soon be reached, and waiting times are still to be expected.

"I have one final update for tonight", the CEO wrote on X. "We have updated the max CCU cap to 700,000. Unfortunately, we expect the CCU to reach that level. We believe that the wait times will be much more bearable."

Aside from increasing the server cap, freshly released patch 1.000.12 (after the patch from two days ago that introduced an auto-kick feature for AFK players) also addressed an issue where some players would get stuck in cinematics for an extended period of time. You can check out the release notes as well as known issues here.

This new 700K CCU player limit is for PS5 and PC players simultaneously - at the time of writing, the Steam CCU sits at nearly 500.000 players. As covered earlier, addressing the ongoing server issues with Helldivers 2 isn't as easy as just buying more servers. "It's not a matter of money or buying more servers", Pilestedt said some days ago. "It's a matter of labour. We need to optimize the backend code. We are hitting some real limits.
