Forget the best weapons, armor, and Stratagems — the best thing players can doin is much simpler than all that. Although the core gameplay is all about dishing out damage to Bugs and Bots, there's also a tactical element to , mostly centered on Stratagems. Having the right tools for the job can make all the difference, and many players strive to bring their builds as close to the meta as possible.

But even the most carefully planned strategy can only take a player so far. It's much more important to know what to do in the heat of battle, and that kind of knowledge isn't so easily taught. Here's why the most important strategy in has nothing to do with what a player's packing, and everything to do with how they use it.

No matter what, players need to run in . Enemy positioning is primarily based on player positioning. If a party stays in one place for too long, even if they've just wiped out a horde, enemies will continue to spawn on top of them until they move. This is a recurring mechanic from the first, although it appears to have been toned down significantly in the sequel.

Running as much as possible goes hand-in-hand with another important strategy: restraint. No matter how much every Major Order insists upon it, players can't actually kill all the Bugs in the entire galaxy, much less on a single mission. Sitting in one place and killing as many enemies as possible isn't even the best way to level up — quite the opposite, in fact.

is an objective-based shooter. Shooting enemies grants bonuses, sure, but finishing missions is the most lucrative source of experience. Lingering for a moment to get one last potshot at a distant Automaton is one thing. Camping in a misguided attempt to farm is another entirely.
