Gothic Remaster in Unreal Engine 4 Receives Open Beta; Available For All Who Own Original Gothic on Steam

A modder is working on his own Gothic remaster within Unreal Engine 4, and a beta version is available now.

We know that there's an official Gothic Remake on the way for PC and consoles. A playable teaser for this remake was released back in 2019, and while we wait for more news on this remake, those who own the original 2001 title can play the first beta version of a fan remaster within Unreal Engine 4. As said, you'll need to own the original game on Steam in order to be able to access this fan beta. We've provided instructions on how to access this beta below:

We've included a gameplay video of this fan remaster in Epic's engine below:

What are your thoughts about this fan remaster? We had to look twice to spot the differences with the original game.

A remake of the game was teased by THQ Nordic back in 2019. We've included a a press release from 2020 below:

THQ Nordic will establish a new studio based in Barcelona, Spain, and will then assess what players liked and what they want to be different than in the playable teaser. One of the most common mentions was for example the demand for a grittier and less colourful world.

"We are up for the challenge to develop a full Gothic Remake which will stay as faithfully as possible to the original experience and transport the atmospheric world of Gothic into a high quality look and carefully modernizing certain gameplay mechanics." says Reinhard Pollice Business and Product Development Director at THQ Nordic.

The full Gothic Remake will go into production and will be developed for PC and next gen consoles. There is no release window available yet, but it will not be coming in 2020.
