Gamer Builds Incredible Display Using Modded Wiis

A dedicated Nintendo Wii fan recently modded their many consoles in a visually impressive display. Nintendo launched the Wii as a competitor to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2006, and it stood out from its contemporaries thanks to its inventive motion-based controls. Using the system’s WiiMote controller, players could see their movements recreated in-game, and this novel approach helped bring in a wider audience of families and non-traditional gamers. As a result, the Nintendo Wii quickly became one of the highest-selling video game consoles of all time.

The Wii was eventually phased out in favor of the Nintendo Wii U in 2012, but it still retains a strong fanbase thanks to a wide range of classic first-party titles like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. More tech-savvy Wii fans have also devised creative ways to mod their consoles over the years, transforming the system into a Game Boy Color-shaped handheld or even using it to run emulated versions of classic games that weren’t included in the Wii’s Virtual Console store.

Reddit user MineOSaurus_Rex put together an impressive display for their many old Nintendo Wii consoles, which they shared a picture of on r/gaming. They modded their systems to keep the LED lights in their disk drives glowing, as they usually only light up when the console is turned on or reading a recently inserted disk. The result is an impressive tower of glowing blue lights that has gained over seven thousand upvotes as of this writing.

Many other Reddit users have commented about why MineOSaurus_Rex has so many Nintendo Wii consoles at the ready, leading them to explain that they use them for hunting shiny Pokemon, using the consoles to run multiple Pokemon games at once to increase the likelihood of running into an ever-illusive alternate color variant.
