Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo Sports Higher Pixel Count And Better Performance Than FFXVI in Performance Mode

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth playable demo is kind of a mixed bag in terms of visuals, but it does have the upper hand over the latest main entry in the series in terms of pixel count and performance.

Speaking during the latest episode of the DF Direct Weekly podcast, Digital Foundry's John Linnemann commented on some technical aspects of the demo, confirming the pixel count in the demo's Performance Mode is 1440p, which is higher than that of Final Fantasy XVI's Performance Mode. Performance wasn't measured, but it does feel more stable than the latest main entry in the series.

While Quality Mode may feel choppy, compared to Performance Mode, it does not seem to suffer from any issue, according to Digital Foundry's early analysis, as the feel of choppiness is caused by a variety of reasons, including per-object motion blur, the bright lighting and, most of all, going straight from Performance Mode to Quality Mode.

Commenting on the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo's visual issues, Digital Foundry reiterated how the blurry visuals in Performance Mode are caused by a low-res post processing pipeline. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the only issue, as the demo features uneven texture quality, especially for the textures used to create a natural environment and low distance for cascading shadows.

As the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is based on an old build of the game, some of these issues could have been already fixed in the launch version. Still, even with these issues, the second entry in the trilogy is setting out to be an amazing game, as highlighted by Kai in his preview.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PlayStation 5 on February 29th worldwide.
