Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Platinum Trophy is currently ‘impossible’ for digital players

Digital owners of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are currently unable to earn the game’s Platinum trophy due to a side quest bug.

According to Kotaku, the bug sees a late-game side quest fail to register the appropriate score earned by the player, thus locking the player out of earning the Platinum trophy until it is fixed.

The side quest sees players attempt to beat a high score on the G-Bike Arcade Simulator, which is found later in the game.

At the time of writing, the game won’t regoznise your score, meaning the goal of beating the “ultimate party animal’s high score,” is impossible.

While this is a frustration for players until it is fixed, those with a physical copy of the game have found a workaround that isn’t possible for digital owners.

The bug was only introduced in a recent patch, so players with a physical copy can uninstall the game, disconnect the PS5 from the internet, and then reinstall the base version.

Following this, if they load up a save that is before the offending bug, they should be able to beat the sidequest as normal and earn the trophy.

Square Enix is yet to comment on the matter and it’s unclear when it will be resolved.

VGC’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth review called the game “an utterly massive RPG pushed to its limit”.

We wrote: “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an excellent RPG with some of the best characters in the gaming canon.

“While some open-world content skirts the edges, and the game’s main narrative is left somewhat deflated, the time spent with Aerith, Tifa, and the gang makes this a hugely enjoyable road trip you’ll be playing for hundreds of hours.”
