Evercade manufacturer announces Atari and Technos edition Super Pocket handhelds

Evercade manufacturer Blaze Entertainment has announced two new additions to its HyperMegaTech Super Pocket line.

The first two Super Pocket handhelds were released last year and came in two versions – a Capcom version with 12 Capcom games built-in, and a Taito edition with 18 Taito games built-in.

These are now set to be joined in October by two new versions, featuring games from Atari and Technos, with each selling for $59 / £49.

The Super Pocket Atari Edition has 50 games built in, including 13 arcade games (such as Asteroids, Berzerk, Crystal Castles and Frenzy) and a selection of console and handheld games from the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and Lynx.

The Super Pocket Technos Edition has 15 games built in, including every arcade Double Dragon game plus home console games like River City Ransom, Renegade and The Combatribes.

As with the existing Capcom and Taito editions, the Atari and Technos editions of the Super Pocket have a cartridge slot, offering full support for the entire library of Evercade cartridges.

There are currently more than 50 Evercade cartridges available, spanning more than 500 retro and indie games.

A special version of the Atari Edition is also available for pre-order exclusively at Funstock. This has a woodgrain-coloured shell, designed to look like the Atari 2600, and will be limited to 2600 units. This version costs $74 / £59.

In May, Blaze announced Evercade Alpha, a range of tabletop arcades which can play Evercade cartridges via two cartridge slots built into the cabinet.

Evercade Alpha launches in November with two separate versions, each containing six built-in Capcom games.
