Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Suffered Slight Delay, Insider Suggests

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may have suffered another internal delay but is still on course for release in 2024, according to a new report from a well-known industry insider. BioWare previously promised that the long-awaited full reveal of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf would be coming in summer 2024, but without committing to a specific release window.

The fourth mainline Dragon Age game originally started development in 2015 but reportedly returned to the drawing board three years later. The project is said to have gone through another major change in 2021, when EA allegedly decided to scrap its multiplayer elements following the failure of Anthem and success of single-player-only Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Although not much has been shared about the game since then, journalist Jeff Grubb offered a steady influx of unofficial insights into Dragon Age: Dreadwolf over the coming years.

The latest such tidbit of info arrived as part of the February 29 episode of the Game Mess Decides podcast, which saw Grubb state that the long-awaited RPG is targeting a late 2024 release. This is slightly later than the time frame reported by the insider in June 2023, when he said BioWare was hoping to release Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in summer 2024. And while this is far from the project's first purported postponement, the studio is now supposedly «pretty confident» that it can hit its new target, Grubb said.

Asked about the exact timing of the game's full reveal, the insider said he doesn't know when it'll happen. Back in December, BioWare told fans to expect the complete unveiling of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf sometime in summer 2024. That promise tracks with the claim that the game is currently targeting a fourth-quarter release. Looking at wider industry trends and EA's own track record, a late 2024 release implies Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is most likely to hit the market during the holiday season, historically the most lucrative period of the year for the gaming industry.
