Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is being handled by Polish studio Forever Entertainment SA

Nintendo‘s upcoming Switch remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns is being handled by Polish publisher and developer Forever Entertainment SA.

Following Nintendo’s announcement of the game during its Nintendo Direct presentation on Tuesday, Forever Entertainment posted a statement to the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (as spotted by Nintendo Life).

The statement confirms that “the game is produced by the issuer [Forever Entertainment] on behalf of Nintendo Co Ltd and will be released by Nintendo”.

It also notes that Forever Entertainment’s management board decided to confirm that it was making the game because the information “may have a potentially significant impact on the valuation” of the company.

Forever Entertainment has published and developed numerous games since it was founded in 2010, including a number of remakes and remasters of retro games.

The company published Panzer Dragoon Remake in 2020, The House of the Dead Remake in 2022, Front Mission 1st Remake in 2022 and Front Mission 2 Remake earlier this year.

It’s also working on remakes of The House of the Dead 2, Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Front Mission 3.

Donkey Kong Country Returns was originally released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii. Developed by Retro Studios, the game was a commercial success, selling over 6 million copies.

The 3DS port of the game, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, was developed by Monster Games and released in 2013.

The HD remaster of Wii platformer Donkey Kong Country Returns will be released on January 16, 2025 for Nintendo Switch. The game includes 80 levels, including the new levels later added to the 3DS version.

Donkey Kong has remained a focus for Nintendo in wider media, taking a starring role in the Super Mario Bros. movie. A Donkey Kong-themed area will also be added to Super Nintendo World in Japan this year, with its American equivalent set for launch in 2025.
