Disney and Sega Rumored to Be Working On New Mobile Game

Disney and Sega may be collaborating on a new game that might be released on mobile phones in the near future. This could mean that Sega fans longing to see the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog do a crossover with Disney icons like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck might finally have their wishes come true.

Mobile games made by Sega are nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, Sega is one of the more prolific third-party publishers with a footprint in the mobile gaming landscape. Just recently, the Japanese video game giant released the puzzle game Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop exclusively for Apple Arcade on iOS. It has also released F2P mobile games like Sonic Dash in the past. In addition to developing brand-new titles for mobile phones, Sega has even made efforts to port some of its games, like Sonic CD, Streets of Rage, and — bizarrely — Alien: Isolation to iOS/Android. Because of all this, a new mobile game in development at Sega isn't that surprising, but the details behind the rumored title make it a little bit more interesting.

According to a tweet from Midori, a trustworthy Atlus and Sega insider, «Disney and Sega are working together on a brand-new title that will be released on mobile platforms» in 2025. No further details were given on this specific game. However, when asked why Sega was insistent on working on mobile games, Midori responded that it was for «sustainability.» Apparently, mobile games — like the one said to be made in collaboration with Disney — are created «to build future partnerships with important brands.»

Judging from all the information provided by this insider, it appears that Sega wants its franchises to reach a wider audience on as many platforms as possible. «The goal is to have a mobile title and a console title to expand on Sega IPs outside of pillar IPs such as Like a Dragon, Persona, and Sonic,» claims Midori.
