Disastrous Willy Wonka Experience Recreated in Animal Crossing and Far Cry 5

Gamers are being inspired by the Willy Wonka fiasco that recently happened in Scotland, recreating the barren and meme-worthy experience in their favorite titles. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Far Cry 5 have both gotten humorous renditions of the disastrous event, which drew in customers with its misleading AI-generated advertisements. The forlorn recreation of Roald Dahl’s magical world turned out to be a threadbare experience with a lone Oompa-Loompa rationing out jellybeans to children and The Unknown (a nonexistent character made up by AI) then jumping out to scare them silly.

Perhaps motivated by the success of the Wonka film released in December 2023, the event in Glasgow has remained an active topic on social media since the end of February and has even begun getting fun recreations in video games. Twitter user Haztecamarera first shared their Animal Crossing: New Horizons version with a hilarious thread that includes the roped-off tapestry, the yellow bear sitting inexplicably in the middle of the floor, and even a short video of The Unknown emoting behind a mirror.

Other gamers are also getting in on the fun, with one person using Far Cry 5’s versatile map editor to create their rendition of the Glasgow Willy WonkaExperience. Reddit user mojoswoptops2020’s version captures the emptiness of the $40 event well, even featuring the pipes sticking out of the floor in random locations and the green-haired Oompa Loompa standing behind a gray desk with beakers on it. A few balloons, traffic cones, a couple of flower pots, and an unrelated painting top of the list of other decorations.

There’s no telling how much longer the Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience will remain a trending topic, but its popularity only seems to be growing. People have begun to edit various celebrities, like Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, into photos of the event.
