Dead by Daylight studio Behaviour is laying off up to 95 employees

Dead by Daylight studio Behaviour Interactive has announced plans to lay off up to 95 employees.

That would represent approximately 7% of the company’s 1,300 workers, with 70 of those set to be affected by the cuts based at its Montreal headquarters.

In the face of “unprecedented competition”, Behaviour said it has “renewed its focus on its historical strengths” in “horror gaming, its production expertise, and its thirty-year history of providing exceptional service to its development partners”.

It added: “These strengths have inspired clear ambitions for the Company’s future – lead in horror, lead in service, and explore the possibilities of location-based entertainment.

“To pursue this clarified vision, Behaviour will implement multiple strategic changes to its corporate structure, improving the distinction between its product, production, business development, and marketing resources.”

Behaviour also reportedly laid off around 45 Montreal-based employees in January.

Its most successful IP, the multiplayer action horror game Dead by Daylight, was released in 2016 and surpassed 60 million players in 2022, according to the company.

A recent Dead by Daylight eighth anniversary broadcast was used to announce Dungeons & Dragons and Castlevania chapters for the game, plus a 2V8 game mode that pits two killers against eight survivors on a much larger map.

The Dungeons & Dragons chapter launched this week, while more information on the Castlevania chapter will be revealed in August.
