The footage show is, in keeping with the genre's trappings, fairly cryptic but those versed in the game's deep lore will undoubtedly recognize some familiar faces as The Tarnished is sent to complete yet another dangerous quest in the Land of Shadow. Per the official Story Trailer on YouTube, the footage largely focuses on the war that unfolded in the Land of Shadow as the terrible leader known as Messmer unleashes his army of flame upon those who dwell under the Erdtree.

Miquella, a background character in, also takes the spotlight as the trailer highlights how the Empyrean loses his Golden Lineage seemingly in an effort to stop Messmer's barbaric onslaught. The trailer concludes with a group of heroes paying their respects to Miquella, implying that the seek vengeance.
