CAPCOM Adds Enigma DRM to Monster Hunter Rise, Too

CAPCOM has added the Enigma DRM to Monster Hunter Rise with the latest update, as reported by Twitter user DakaR:FT. The DRM is being slowly introduced to older titles, causing a ruckus with Resident Evil Revelations, where people reported various performance issues. The Japanese publisher eventually reversed the update after a wave of review bombing on Steam.

It should be noted that Fluffyquack, the creator of RETool, has disputed the notion that Enigma DRM was behind the issues seen in Resident Evil Revelations.

We have no reason to believe Enigma was behind the problems with the Revelations patch and the vast majority of mods still work completely fine with the games that have Enigma Protection. And while it was disappointing to hear from the RE Engine conference that CAPCOM is officially against mods, they haven't done anything substantial to prevent them and there's no indication so far that's changing.

I saw other modders note that CAPCOM will sometimes switch out Denuvo or Enigma for the other. For instance, RE4 demo had Enigma but the full version used Denuvo. Ghost Trick had Denuvo removed and then Enigma added. So it looks like CAPCOM are going for the plan of using Denuvo for when a game is new and then eventually switch it out for Enigma. It's also worth noting that RE4R demo was modded like crazy, despite it having Enigma.

As a reminder, Monster Hunter Rise was released two years ago on PC by CAPCOM. The game earned a 9 out of 10 score here on Wccftech:

Monster Hunter Rise goes a long way to streamline many of the most annoying aspects of the series, at the cost of some of the complexity seen in older games. The pros of this streamlining process, however, far exceed the cons, making Monster Hunter Rise the perfect game for those who never really got into the series but still want to give it another chance. Even more so on PC, thanks to one of the most solid ports we have seen
