Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Balances Overpowered Attachment By Giving It a Big Weakness

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has balanced one of the game's most overpowered attachments in an attempt to nerf it, by giving it one huge downside. It may still be one of the best attachments in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but there's a reason for players to think twice before using the JAK BFB Muzzle.

Despite the rough launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games has been persistent in its attempts to right the wrongs from release. This has meant plenty of nerfing overpowered weapons, in an attempt to make the game as balanced as possible. These improvements haven't all been balance-related, though. Post-release, the studio has continued to release new maps and modes for the game. Just a few days back, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play finally launched, adding one of the most requested features from the community. Long may these improvements continue.

The attachment that has been nerfed is the JAK BFB Muzzle, which was added as part of the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Season 1 Reloaded. The JAK BFB gives enormous recoil reductions in all the Gun Kick Control, Vertical Recoil, and Horizontal categories, making its accuracy potentially game-breaking in the right hands. A clip posted to Reddit by user OriginalXVI shows off the huge drawback: when players fire the weapon with the JAK BFB attached, the minimap dot appears as a directional indicator. This gives everyone on the enemy team a perfect read on the user's location and direction, much like an Advanced UAV would. It's a great way to counter the attachment's obvious pros.

Some in the thread pointed out one obvious problem with the nerf that will affect certain sections of the community. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Hardcore Mode, there is no minimap by default, unless a UAV is deployed. This means that without an active UAV on the enemy team, Hardcore players using the JAK BFB Muzzle will still be able to reap the massive benefits, without the drawback.
