BitSummit Drift announces its official selection of 100 titles

Japan’s most popular indie games expo, BitSummit, has announced the 100 games that will feature at this year’s show.

The 12th instalment, which has been titled BitSummit Drift, will take place at the Miyako Messe in Kyoto and will feature 100 unique indie games chosen from the Official Festival Selection, as well as other games from sponsors and partners.

The list includes such titles as Hotel Barcelona, Tokyo Underground Killer and C-Smash VRS New Dimension (the non-VR, PS5 version of C-Smash VRS).

The full list can be found onthe BitSummit website.

For the first time in the show’s history, BitSummit will take over the entirety of the Miyako Messe venue, expanding to both floors of the venue.

It takes place in Kyoto on July 19-21. The first day is for developers, publishers, media and sponsors, while the 20th and 21st are open to the public too.

The show will also feature panels and presentations from industry leaders, which will be streamed online. Details and schedules will be announced nearer to the show’s launch.

VGC is the western media partner for BitSummit and you can expect full coverage of the event on this site, as it happens.

Last year’s event, titled BitSummit Let’s Go!!, was BitSummit’s first fully in-person show since before the pandemic, attracting a record attendance of 23,700 visitors, according to organisers. In 2019, it attracted around 17,000 visitors.

BitSummit Let’s Go!!! featured around 100 games from more than 20 countries. VGC played and summarised a large chunk of these titles, and crowned its BitSummit Game of the Show, Unrestricted.

The game has since found a publisher and will be released worldwide under its new title, Undefeated: Genesis.

Established in late 2012, BitSummit was originally formed to give Japanese independent game developers a chance to show their games to the world.

BitSummit is organised by the Japan Independent Games Aggregate (JIGA) – Q-Games Ltd, Skeleton Crew Studios, Pygmy Studio Co Ltd and BlackSheep.
